I Don’t Need the Zuiko 40-150mm Kit Lens

4 July, 2008 (02:55) | ME dslr camera Olympus | By: a.i. editor

At first, I was informed by Annie Seow of Foto Miami that I can purchase my new Olympus e-420 with inclusive package (prices shown below) over at Photo Flash in Ampang Point. Photo Flash is the closest retail camera shop nearest to my home & I felt happy not having to travel far to do my purchase. I felt that it is almost as easy as buying catheters online.

MYR 2400 ($750): 2 kit lens Olympus e-420, 1 tripod, 1 photo bag, 1 CF Ultra II storage card

MYR 2000 ($625): 1 kit lens Olympus e-420, 1 tripod, 1 photo bag, 1 CF Ultra II storage card

However, things did not turn out quite as I expected because the Photo Flash only had the 2 kit lens Olympus e-420 in stock. I wanted to buy the 1 kit lens Olympus e-420 & shall have to wait about a week to buy it from the store as they had to put in the order & have it sent to the shop. I had no use for the other lens even though it would cost me about triple the cost to buy in individually other than in the package. Additionally, the other lens is, I have read, performs below average for its purpose & I shall can do better photos with a more advanced $800 lens in the future. Still, using telephoto lens is not in my business plan for the next few months or even a year or two.

Olympus e-420 Package Price Comparison

The prices for the items were quoted for me as below:

MYR 2400 ($750): 2 kit lens Olympus e-420, 1 tripod, 1 photo bag, 1 CF Ultra II storage card

MYR 2000 ($625): 1 kit lens Olympus e-420, 1 tripod, 1 photo bag, 1 CF Ultra II storage card

Previously, I had done a survey of prices over at BHPhotoVideo.com, the premier online photography equipment retailer based in New York & calculated how much it can cost me, buying the Olympus e-420 from them, with the items sent to a New York address. The price for a single kit lens Olympus e-420 at BHPhotoVideo.com was $569.95 & the cheapest delivery option was $11.75. The price for an a CF Ultra II storage card is $35 & a cheap photo bag was $20, & lastly a tripod for $20 too. The total of the same single kit lens Olympus e-420 with the above listed package from BHphoto.com amounts to the total of $652 (MYR 2087).

Canon EOS Rebel XSi: Pricey - No IS & Wireless Flash

2 June, 2008 (07:59) | ME dslr camera Canon | By: a.i. editor

Why is Canon the only DSLR camera manufacturer that makes silver colored models? I like silver colored DSLRs. They look more appealing & sleek to me rather than the same old black colored models. Canon has released its new silver colored EOS Rebel XSi. It includes an Auto Focus Live View, something that Canon was reluctant to incorporate in older models. The most significant advancements in the EOS Rebel XSi are the 12.2 megapixels effective CMOS sensor, DIGIC III processor, Auto Focus Live View, & 3.5 frames per second continuous shooting capability. Did I mention the model comes in a silver version too?
